A 42-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the death of a man in South Australia.

Following a night spent in custody under suspicion of murdering her partner, the suspect was transported on a stretcher from the Port Pirie police station to the nearby hospital.

At about 2.15pm yesterday, police responded to reports that a man had been found unconscious at a home on Dorothy Street in Port Pirie South.

The 52-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbours say the couple had been living at the property for nearly a decade and were quiet and unassuming.

“They appear to be really nice people, don’t have any children, and I believe they might have had a couple of dogs or so, but they mostly kept to themselves,” a neighbor shared with 9News.

Today friends and family returned to the home of the couple to collect their pet dogs.

Family told 9News the man had been unwell for quite some time with diabetes and was previously in and out of hospital for treatment.

The ordeal has left the small, tight-knit community on edge.

The woman is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

A crime scene has been established as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 52-year-old’s death.
