Jesse Baird’s boyfriend, Luke Davies, called Triple-0 moments before Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly shot the pair dead.
The call was made at 9.50am on February 19, 2024, but ended almost immediately. Triple-0 operators attempted to return the call twice.
One operator said she heard a male voice say “f*** off” before the connection was lost.
Further calls to Davies’ phone were diverted to voicemail.
His voicemail message said: “Hi, you’ve reached Luke. Please leave a message and I’ll get back to you.”
CCTV footage showed that, after the alleged murders, Lamarre-Condon drove his rented Mazda to Decathlon to purchase another surfboard bag.
After leaving Baird’s Paddington terrace on the morning of February 19, 2024, Lamarre-Condon was seen entering the sports store at Westfield Miranda.
He selected a surfboard bag in the same style as one he had purchased days earlier, then paid $85 in cash.
Lamarre-Condon is accused of hiding Baird and Davies’ bodies inside two surfboard bags and leaving them in the courtyard of Baird’s Paddington rental overnight.
At 1.34pm, he was captured on camera withdrawing $250 from an ATM in Mascot.
The court heard Lamarre-Condon later visited Bunnings in Alexandria, where he bought a tool bag, bucket, mop, mop wringer, disposable gloves and other items. No CCTV footage was available for those purchases.
Baird’s housemate “poked” a surfboard bag and a blue tarp in the rear courtyard of their rental after noticing that both appeared to be oozing red liquid.
The housemate, identified in court by the pseudonym Sarah King, said she returned to the share house on the day of the alleged murders.
She entered the courtyard, pictured below, and discovered the bags and tarp, none of which she had seen before.
“I poked the tarp or the surfboard bag,” Ms King told the court.
She said the material did not feel unusual, describing the sound as being “just like a tarp”.
Ms King took photographs to send to another housemate, identified for legal reasons as Belinda Smith.
The court also heard that, the day before the alleged murders, Lamarre-Condon asked a police colleague about the high-profile killings of Lilie James, pictured below, and Matthew Leveson.
Ben Higginson, a former police officer, told the court on Friday that he worked alongside Lamarre-Condon at an event in Sydney’s Domain on February 18, 2024.
When Lamarre-Condon asked about his work, Mr Higginson said he had been involved in the investigation into Lilie James’ murder.
Ms James, 21, was bludgeoned to death by her ex-boyfriend Paul Thijssen, 24, at St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney CBD on October 25, 2023. Thijssen then killed himself.
Mr Higginson told the court that Lamarre-Condon was very interested in the case.
‘I gave him a fair bit of detail about how f***ed up it was, and then some of the things Thijssen had done,’ he said.
When the Crown prosecutor asked what sort of detail he provided, Mr Higginson said: ‘We believe Thijssen used Lily’s phone to text her father to come to the school after he killed her.’
‘[Lamarre-Condon] thought Thijssen was stupid for doing it on CCTV.
‘He asked if Thijssen hadn’t murdered Lily and then been seen on CCTV, would have gotten away with it.
‘I said we don’t only rely on CCTV, there’s a big effort with investigators and so on.’
