NFL great Bill Belichick, Jordon Hudson and their controversial romance have been a constant source of headlines. On Friday night, however, the pair made news for an entirely different reason.
Reports emerged that the high-profile couple had ended their 49-year age-gap relationship after two years marked by controversy and intense public scrutiny.
The reported split brings an end to a highly publicized chapter involving Belichick, 74, and Hudson, 25, who were rarely far from the spotlight—usually for the wrong reasons.
For decades, the University of North Carolina head coach kept reporters at arm’s length and revealed little about his personal life. That changed after former cheerleader Hudson entered the picture, with the famously private Belichick suddenly becoming a regular fixture in the news.
The couple faced sustained questions about when their relationship began, awkward interviews and, inevitably, the nearly half-century separating them in age.

Although the veteran coach was around 69 at the time and Hudson was a college student, Belichick reportedly found a way to begin a conversation.
He is said to have noticed Hudson reading Deductive Logic, a philosophy textbook written by Harvard professor Warren Goldfarb, and used it as a conversation starter.
Hudson later asked him to autograph the book, a request he accepted. In its pages, he wrote: ‘Thanks for giving me a course on logic!’
The two have consistently insisted, however, that the meeting did not mark the beginning of a romantic relationship.

Their insistence has largely centered on the uncertain timeline surrounding the romance.
Though Belichick met Hudson in 2021, he remained in a relationship with Boston news anchor Linda Holliday until sometime in 2022.
Belichick and Holliday had been together since 2007 and are believed to have separated in September 2022, roughly a year after his first meeting with Hudson.
They kept the breakup private, and news of their separation did not become public until 2023, shortly before the Patriots’ season opener.
At a time when the public still assumed Belichick and Holliday were together, speculation about Hudson had already started to circulate.

In May 2024, the romance became the subject of a joke during Tom Brady’s Netflix roast, when the legendary quarterback appeared to make an unknowing reference to the couple.
Brady, who played under Belichick in New England for 20 seasons, took the opportunity to tease his former coach. Belichick joined in alongside former Patriots stars Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, as well as owner Robert Kraft.
Brady referred to the now-famous Ring footage, saying: ‘Everybody asks me which ring is my favorite, I used to say “the next one.”‘
‘But now that I am retired, my favorite Ring is the camera that caught Coach Belichick slinking out of that poor girl’s house a few months ago. Hey, you still got it. Respect baby.’
At the time, Brady apparently did not know that the home belonged to Belichick’s much younger girlfriend.
Belichick had already been dating Hudson for months, but that detail was unknown to Brady and the millions watching the Netflix special. The full significance of the joke only emerged later that year.

Going public – June to October 2024
A month after Brady’s joke, several outlets, including Our News Outlet, reported that Belichick and Hudson had been together for more than a year.
The following month, the pair were photographed cycling together in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Hudson wore a cropped top and leggings, while Belichick opted for an oversized T-shirt and shorts.
Hudson also publicly acknowledged the relationship when Belichick joined Instagram that September. ‘This is my formal petition for @BillBelichick to change his handle to @BillyGoat!! Welcome to the ‘Gram, Billy!!!!’ she wrote.
Red carpet debut – December 2024
By Christmas 2024, there was little doubt that the pair were together. Weeks earlier, they had made their red carpet debut and appeared in public as a couple for the first time.
Belichick attended the American Museum of Natural History gala in New York with Hudson, joining stars including Scarlett Johansson and Alec Baldwin.

Belichick and Hudson attracted attention again when they walked the red carpet at the 2025 NFL Honors in New Orleans. Their age difference and Hudson’s revealing outfit quickly became talking points.
Inside the ceremony, the pair were also caught off guard by a joke from host Snoop Dogg.

The report came after Hudson’s company, Trouble Cub Enterprises, filed more than a dozen trademark applications with the federal trademark office. People reported that the phrases were commonly associated with Belichick and were already owned by his former team, the Patriots.
Together, the episodes raised questions about Hudson’s influence over Belichick and fears that her allegedly chaotic involvement could affect his reputation and legacy.
In May 2025, investigative journalist Pablo Torre claimed on his podcast that Hudson was no longer welcome inside UNC’s football facilities.
The sports journalist also attributed the following assessment to a source: ‘There is deep worry for how detrimental Jordon can be for not just North Carolina but Bill’s legacy, reputation—everything he has built and worked for over decades.’
Carolina Athletics strongly denied to Our News Outlet that Hudson had been banned.
Another report from The Washington Post claimed that UNC insiders had criticized Belichick’s ‘odd’ relationship with Hudson and questioned the extent of her influence over the coach.
One Tar Heel employee reportedly suggested that the relationship could ultimately cost Belichick his job.
‘It’s just so odd,’ the UNC official told the outlet. ‘And we just don’t know what’s coming. Those two decide what they’re going to do and they do it.
‘She is very, very involved in the crafting of Bill’s projected image, everything you see on Instagram, all of that. I know it’s hard to separate out this image of Bill Belichick and Bill Belichick the North Carolina football coach.’
‘Maybe it sounds silly for me to try to separate the two things. But really the football side of Bill and now the public side of Bill have become two different things, and she is in charge of the public side.’

Torre had alleged that Hudson falsified her birth year on a document at the University of North Carolina, where Belichick serves as head football coach.
On his podcast, the former ESPN reporter and his co-hosts speculated that Hudson had listed 2000 rather than 2001 as her birth year in an effort to reduce criticism of the age gap between her and Belichick.
Hudson responded by sharing two screenshots of a conversation with Emily Muse, UNC’s chief of staff personnel. The messages appeared to indicate that the incorrect year had been entered by a member of the team staff.
She ultimately did not proceed with the threatened legal action.
