Boyfriend's tribute for teen after suspected choking: 'I miss you'

The boyfriend of a 16-year-old girl who died after being choked during sex has posted a devastating final tribute to her.

Emergency crews were called to a home in Elanora Heights, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, at about 5.45pm on August 23 after reports that a teenage girl was suffering a seizure.

Paramedics found the girl unresponsive and placed her in an induced coma before she was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

Her mother was at the property at the time and was taken to the hospital by road ambulance.

NSW Police later confirmed the teenager died two days after the emergency response.

In the days since, friends of the 16-year-old have shared photos and heartfelt messages on social media as they mourn her death.

Her boyfriend added his own message beneath one of the tribute posts.

‘I love you more than anything and I miss you more than you could ever imagine. Rest peacefully my love,’ he wrote.

The teenager’s best friend shared a series of photos of them together, along with an emotional message.

‘It truly breaks my heart to see one of my best friends go at such a young age. The love I have for you is indescribable and I can’t believe I never get to see your beautiful face again,’ the friend said.

‘I’m gonna miss my buddy that was always down to do things with me that no one else wanted to do.

‘You are the most beautiful soul I know and I don’t know how I’m gonna do life without you.’

The best friend also posted a photo showing a group gathered at sunset on a beach, with a fire and pink and white bouquets of flowers nearby.

A schoolmate of the girl also wrote a tribute on social media describing the teenager’s kindness.

‘I love you so much you were my best friend someone I could say anything to,’ the school friend said.

‘You wouldn’t judge a single soul and saw everyone for their kindness and who they truly were. Every room you walked in would light up.

‘I will never forget my first day of school, and that was the day I met you, possibly one of the best days of my life. I hope to see you in the afterlife where we can catch up like we used to.’

It is understood police have been told the girl was involved in a consensual sex act involving choking, during which she allegedly became unconscious and suffered a seizure.

A 16-year-old male, known to the girl, was cooperating with police.

‘Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident,’ police said in a statement last week.

No arrests have been made and inquiries are continuing, police confirmed to Our News Outlet on Tuesday.

Days after the girl was found dead, Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said Australia needed to seriously look at recent UK laws that criminalised depictions of strangulation and suffocation in pornography.

‘There is something wrong with a situation where 60 per cent of young people say they’ve experienced strangulation during sexual encounters,’ she said.

‘There is no safe way to strangle someone.’

NSW Liberal leader Kellie Sloane has written to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calling for a UK-style ban to be introduced.

‘We have had the inquiries, we have the evidence and we have seen the consequences,’ she said.

‘When pornography depicts an act capable of causing brain injury, unconsciousness or death, it should not be treated as just another form of adult entertainment.’
