Israel vows to assassinate successor to Iran’s Ayatollah
Eliana Silver reports that Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has issued a stark warning regarding the future leadership of Iran. Katz has threatened to target and eliminate any Iranian leader who succeeds the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following US-Israeli military actions in Tehran.
This declaration coincides with reports suggesting that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the deceased Ayatollah, has been appointed as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
In a post on the social media platform X, Katz stated, “Any leader chosen by the Iranian terror regime to continue its agenda of destroying Israel, threatening the United States and the free world, destabilizing the region, and oppressing the Iranian people will be targeted for assassination, regardless of his name or hiding place.”
Mojtaba Khamenei, aged 56, is the second eldest son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and is known for his close ties with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the Iranian opposition outlet, Iran International, his selection by Iran’s Assembly of Experts was heavily influenced by the Revolutionary Guards.
Despite his new role, Mojtaba does not hold a high clerical rank, has never occupied a governmental position, and lacks an official role within the Iranian regime.
