Bride ended up an ambulance after getting drunk on her wedding day

Weddings are often hailed as one of the most joyous occasions, but one bride is cautioning others about going overboard with celebratory drinks after the ceremony.

Danielle Crowther found herself putting her husband’s vows to the test early when she ended up unconscious and in an ambulance by the close of her wedding day.

On April 3, Danielle and her partner of two years, Lewis Crowther, exchanged vows. The ceremony marked the start of their life together as husband and wife.

The 31-year-old bride recounted that the day began smoothly at the Canterbury register office in Kent. Afterward, the couple joined 40 guests for a lively reception.

Danielle admitted that pre-wedding jitters kept her from eating while she was getting ready. Despite this, she found herself with a drink in hand throughout the evening’s festivities.

Mixing various alcoholic beverages, Danielle lost track of her consumption and later described it as being the most intoxicated she had ever been, which resulted in her losing consciousness.

Her new husband Lewis called an ambulance after guests realised she was not responsive.

Thankfully, medics reportedly found she was simply intoxicated and did not transfer her to hospital.

While Danielle said she was embarrassed upon waking up, she now finds the incident funny.

One of the guests posted footage of the night online, gathering more than 41,000 views.

Danielle commented on the footage, writing: ‘Oh my God how bloody embarrassing.’

It showed people downing shots before the bride can be seen being lifted off a chair by guests and then unconscious in the back of an ambulance – still in her wedding dress.

Danielle, from Whitstable, Kent, said: ‘Everything was absolutely fine, it went really smoothly.

‘At the reception I kept having drinks handed to me and I went to sit down next to my little one and just went.

‘I must have fallen asleep but I was unresponsive. I had a lot of drinks, shots, all different stuff.

‘I was mixing different stuff, I really should have stuck to one drink. It was a bit of everything. It was in the last half an hour of it [the reception].

‘My husband called the ambulance. I don’t remember it at all.

‘They didn’t take me to hospital because they said I was intoxicated. I felt awful, my head was spinning.’

Danielle was taken home and was told the story of the night by her family when she woke up.

The stay-at-home mother said she did not intend to drink so much, but put it down to being stressed on her big day.

Looking back, Danielle said the incident made the wedding better as she can laugh about it now.

The newlywed, however, has urged future brides not to drink on an empty stomach.

Danielle said: ‘Everyone laughed. The next morning my sister and my family told me what happened and I thought, ‘Oh my God.’

‘I was dancing and I went over to sit next to my little boy. I sat on the chair and just went. It’s the drunkest I’ve been in my life. I was taken home.

‘I said I’m not going to drink that much. It was 100 per cent wedding stress, I suffer from anxiety anyway.

‘My husband did find it funny, but he had quite a bit to drink as well. Looking back, it made it better, it’s funny. It didn’t ruin the wedding.

‘I would tell brides to eat while they’re getting ready and not drink on an empty stomach. I couldn’t eat anything because of the stress.

‘I was planning the wedding for about six months. We were together a couple of months before he proposed. We’d known each other for years.’
