Cava Expands to Northern California With First Bay Area Restaurants

Northern California is about to get its first bite of Cava.

The Mediterranean fast-casual favorite is set to make its Bay Area debut next year, bringing an end to years of rumors, wishful thinking and social media pleas from local fans eager for a location closer to home.

“We’re thrilled to finally bring Cava to Northern California after years of hearing from passionate fans across the region who have asked us to come their way,” Jeff Gaul, Cava’s chief development officer, told KRON4.

Cava confirmed to the outlet that its first Northern California restaurant will open at 3055 Olin Avenue, Suite 1035, in San Jose’s Santana Row.

The company has also confirmed plans for two additional restaurants closer to San Francisco, though it has not yet revealed the exact addresses or opening timelines for those locations.

Often described as a Mediterranean counterpart to Chipotle, Cava specializes in customizable grain bowls, salads and pitas layered with bright, bold ingredients inspired by Mediterranean cuisine.

Popular menu items include the Harissa Avocado Bowl and the Greek Chicken Pita, along with the chain’s signature dips, which can be added to a variety of meals. Diners can build their own bowls from scratch or order one of Cava’s curated combinations.

If the online buzz is any indication, Bay Area diners have been ready for Cava’s arrival for a long time.

“Yes!!!” one social media user cheered after the news broke.

“Finally,” another commenter declared.

“About dang time,” a third added.

Cava told KRON4 each new restaurant is expected to employ approximately 25 to 40 local workers.

The chain has been on a serious growth streak since opening its first restaurant in 2011. Cava now boasts more than 450 locations nationwide, including roughly 45 in the Golden State.
