Charlotte Church puts 'real Tardis' Welsh cottage on the market

Charlotte Church has placed her characterful semi-detached cottage in Wales on the market, with an asking price of £695,000.

The singer purchased the historic home, believed to date from the mid-17th century, a little over two years ago for £10,000 below its current guide price.

Her move into the period property followed the sale of The Spinney, her former six-bedroom mansion in Dinas Powys, which changed hands for £2.1 million.

The South Wales cottage has now appeared in online property listings, complete with a “seller’s insight” section that highlights interiors influenced by trips to Africa and Morocco.

Estate agents also describe the home as a “real Tardis”, suggesting there is far more space inside than its exterior might imply.

Church, 40, who has been married to musician Jonathan Powell since 2017, has previously spoken candidly about no longer having a multi-million-pound fortune while reflecting on her decision to sell her former mansion.

The property, set “on a quiet road”, is marketed as an “exceptional four-bedroom residence” and is said to be among the oldest homes in the local area.

The estate agents’ description adds: ‘Rich in character and beautifully enhanced by its current owner, the property seamlessly blends original period features with tasteful modern updates, creating a warm and versatile family home just five minutes from the park and seafront.

‘With generous living accommodation, multiple reception rooms, extensive driveway parking and substantial garden studios with annexe potential (subject to planning), this is a rare opportunity to secure a truly special home within easy reach of local amenities.’

It also boasts of a ‘welcoming porch’ which leads into the first of three reception rooms which have exposed beams and a ‘charming’ fireplace and original staircase.

This then leads into a central hallway with stairs to the first floor and a family space.

The property also has a patio outside, garden and BBQ space, said to be the ‘ideal setting’ for entertaining al fresco.

The ‘sellers’ insight’ section of the online advert – where sellers are invited to write a short description of the property – describes the house as ‘such a special place to be, especially once you’re cocooned inside’.

It states: ‘We love how modest the property looks from the outside but how well-proportioned it is – it’s a real Tardis, with every space brilliantly utilised, making it perfect for family life. It’s such a special place to be, especially once you’re cocooned inside.

‘We bought it already extended, with a lovely glass and corrugated iron addition complementing the thick cottage walls but have made changes to suit our taste.

‘Inspired by our travels to Morocco and Africa we’ve introduced natural materials, including reclaimed wooden flooring and hessian carpets upstairs. We’ve added beautiful tiles in the kitchen and created retreat-like bathrooms.

‘We’ve added banana plants, fruit-bearing shrubs, and fragrant flowers in sunset and sunrise shades – pinks, purples, oranges, blues, peaches, yellows. It feels otherworldly, a real sanctuary away from the business of life.’

Ms Church has previously spoken of her financial situation, telling Closer magazine in 2024: ‘I am not a millionaire anymore.’

She said that when she bought her previous home, The Spinney, ‘what mattered to me was it was absolutely beautiful and close to the forest and it was a big mansion house’.

The Voice of An Angel singer shot to fame when aged 11 and, at one stage, had built up an estimated fortune of £25 million.

She performed to audiences around the world and famous people including former US President Bill Clinton, Pope John Paul II, Queen Elizabeth II and the then Prince Charles.
