Christian McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo welcome their second child

San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey and his wife, Olivia Culpo, are now parents of two. The couple has welcomed a son, Roman Augustus.

Culpo, the former Miss Universe, announced their baby boy’s name and September 29 birth date in an Instagram post shared Saturday. The carousel featured intimate photos of Culpo and McCaffrey holding Roman, along with a sweet introduction between the newborn and his older sister, Colette, who was born in July 2025. One image showed Culpo beside McCaffrey as she prepared to deliver Roman by C-section.

The couple has not said whether Roman’s name reflects a special interest in ancient Rome or a connection to Augustus, the Roman emperor born Octavian in 63 BC.

McCaffrey, whose father is three-time Super Bowl champion Ed McCaffrey, married model and influencer Olivia Culpo in June 2024. The wedding took place in Culpo’s home state of Rhode Island.

Culpo had previously indicated that she planned to wait before having another baby. However, she later discovered she was already four months pregnant—just six months after welcoming Colette.

“I did not think that this was going to happen the way that it did,” Culpo said in a TikTok video posted in May. She described the pregnancy as unexpected but expressed gratitude for the chance to welcome another child, adding that her main hope was for the baby to be healthy.

At the time, Culpo also acknowledged that she had not fully recovered from her first C-section.

She recalled initially questioning whether another pregnancy so soon was possible and admitted she wished she had been able to plan the timing more carefully.

Culpo revealed her second pregnancy on her 34th birthday, sharing a series of family portraits from a photoshoot that included McCaffrey, Colette and the couple’s puppy.

McCaffrey has spoken warmly about the experience of becoming a father, as he told Us Magazine in February.

“It’s the best,” the NFL running back said, explaining that Colette’s smile helps put everything into perspective after both good and difficult days. He called fatherhood the biggest blessing in their lives.

It's unclear if the couple has a particular affinity for Roman history or their young boy's namesake, the emperor born Octavian in 63 BC and later immortalized in countless statues

McCaffrey also described how meaningful it has been to watch Culpo become a mother. Because Colette arrived in July, shortly before training camp, he spent much of that period balancing family life with the demands of an entire football season. Welcoming Roman has given him more time to slow down and enjoy fatherhood.

Since Colette’s arrival, Culpo and McCaffrey have been learning to navigate parenthood while managing the running back’s demanding NFL schedule.

In a January interview, Culpo discussed how becoming a father has influenced McCaffrey’s outlook on football losses, including his playoff defeat against the Seattle Seahawks.

“First and foremost, I have always been worried about his health and safety,” she told the New York Post. Culpo said her focus is on whether McCaffrey is feeling well and has made it through a game without serious physical setbacks.

She added that football is an intensely physical sport, so staying healthy is essential to reaching personal goals. Culpo said she tries to support McCaffrey while recognizing that defeats can still affect him deeply.

‘Having a baby there really has changed that and made everything feel a little bit more grounded and light — and just have a better perspective because… win or lose, you still have to show up for her.’

Culpo continued: ‘I always knew he would be a really good dad because he’s just a really good person. And his parents [Lisa and former NFL wideout Ed McCaffrey] are just a great example.

‘But I feel like I’m happy for the perspective that it’s able to give him, especially with his career,’ she said. ‘So I’m very grateful for that.’

A three-time All-Pro now in his 10th NFL season, McCaffrey had a successful campaign in 2025 after becoming a father, rushing for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 924 yards and seven more scores through the passing game.

Most importantly, he appeared in all 17 games for the 49ers, who fell to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Seahawks in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

This year, the 49ers are off to a 4-0 start thanks to 340 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns from McCaffrey.
