The FBI was seen searching trash containers at the apartment complex with the 3-year-old girl was last seen a week ago

Authorities in Texas are continuing to search for a missing three-year old girl a week after she vanished from a San Antonio playground.

As previously reported, Lina Khil is believed to have wandered away from a playground at the 300-unit San Antonio apartment complex where she lives with her family. The 3-year-old girl’s mother reportedly separated briefly from her child and returned to the playground to find her missing at about 5 p.m. on December 20. Lina’s father told a local news station that Lina’s mother initially believed the child had gone back to the apartment, but did find her there. Her parents then considered the possibility that their daughter was with another Afghan family in the community, but again, could not locate her and reported her missing around 7 p.m. that evening.

Police have said that other children and adults were at or near the playground at the time of Lina’s disappearance. A San Antonio Police Department press release obtained by KSAT has urged anyone who believes they may have spoken to Lina or a family member of the missing girl on December 20 at the Villas del Cabo Apartment Complex to contact police at 210-207-7660.

“No detail is too small as we continue to search for Lina,” police said in the news release.

On Wednesday, a reporter for KENS-5 said on Twitter that FBI agents were seen looking through trash receptacles at the apartment complex.

While the Texas Department of Safety issued an AMBER Alert, and the San Antonio police have requested the aid of the FBI’s child abduction rapid response team, police are still characterizing her disappearance as a missing person case. Authorities have not identified any suspects or persons of interest, and police have said from the start of the investigation that Lina’s family — who reportedly speak a rare Afghan dialect — have been cooperative. Authorities are working with a translator to communicate with Lina’s family, who provided police with video of the missing girl.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the Islamic Center of San Antonio initially put up reward money of $75,000; this has now increased to $100,000. Crime Stoppers has also offered a reward of $50,000; for a total of $150,000 for tips that lead to the missing girl.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the San Antonio police missing person unit at 210-207-7660.
