Columbus police: Officer injured after being struck by stolen Hyundai near airport

A spokesperson with the police department said one person inside the stolen vehicle was apprehended by officers before the crash happened.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An officer with the Columbus Division of Police was injured when he was reportedly struck by a stolen vehicle near John Glenn Columbus International Airport late Wednesday night. 

 The crash happened just before midnight at the intersection of East 5th Avenue and Airway Drive.

Dispatchers with Columbus police told 10TV that the reportedly stolen Hyundai struck the officer and drove away from the scene. A spokesperson with the police department said one person inside the stolen vehicle was apprehended by officers before the crash happened. 

Police said the driver of the Hyundai ran away from the vehicle shortly after the crash. 

The officer was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and his condition was listed as stable, dispatchers said. 

Additional details surrounding the crash were not immediately available.
