A school district in Virginia is facing scrutiny once again after allegations emerged of a student taking photos of peers in the bathroom.
Reports indicate that a student, believed to be transgender, at Freedom High School within the Loudoun County Public School District (LCPSD) is under investigation for allegedly filming and photographing more than 40 classmates in restrooms, as per information from local ABC affiliate WJLA.
WJLA’s sources suggest that this issue has been ongoing for approximately three years. Principal Tania Brown reportedly informed parents of the situation through an email sent at the end of April.
In the email, Principal Brown mentioned that school officials are aware of the allegations and are actively collaborating with law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.
She also urged parents of students at Freedom High School to review their children’s phone usage and discuss the responsible use of technology.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, The Daily Mail has reached out to both the sheriff’s office and the school district seeking further details and comments.
The LCPSD has frequently made headlines for allowing transgender students to use the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.
The district was among five others in northern Virginia that were at risk of losing their federal funding after the Trump administration decided that Title IX would be interpreted only based on biological sex.

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in educational programs.
‘The Northern Virginia School Divisions that are choosing to abide by woke gender ideology in place of federal law must now prove they are using every single federal dollar for a legal purpose,’ Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement at the time.
Many have argued against the Trump administration’s interpretation of Title IX. An appeals court ruled in 2021 that transgender bathroom bans were unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment.
Loudoun Public Schools said in a statement at the time that they did not believe they had violated Title IX, writing: ‘Moreover, LCPS will continue to expend federal funds consistent with federal law and remains committed to its mission of empowering all students to make meaningful contributions to the world.’
The school has made headlines since 2021, when the superintendent at the time denied having ‘any record’ of a sexual assault in the bathroom of Stone Bridge High School.
However, an email dated the same day as the assault revealed that he wrote to the school board: ‘This afternoon a female student alleged that a male student sexually assaulted her in the restroom. The LCSO is investigating the matter.’
The boy accused of the assault was later charged with two counts of forcible sodomy and sexual battery.
The former superintendent, Scott Ziegler, told a crowded meeting that there had been no sexual assaults on campus and that predatory transgender people do not exist.’
‘I regret that my comments were misleading and I apologize for the distress they caused families,’ he said in a statement at the time.
‘To the families and students involved, my heart aches for you. I am sorry that we failed to provide the safe, welcoming and affirming environment that we aspire to provide.
‘We acknowledge and share in your pain and we will continue to offer you support to help your families through this trauma.’
The girl’s father, Scott Smith, was convicted of disturbing a school board meeting and later announced that he and his wife were suing the school district.
Ziegler was then charged with providing false information at a school board meeting related to sexual assault, but the charge was later dropped.
He was fired in 2022 over concerns about his handling of the assaults, WJLA reported at the time.
Ziegler had also been accused of retaliating against a special education teacher after she claimed LCPS had failed to stop a student who was inappropriately touching her.
He was found guilty in 2023, but the charge was later dismissed, and a judge overturned his conviction after it was found that the jury had been given incorrect instructions.

LCPS made headlines once again last year after two teenage boys were suspended for allegedly sexually harassing a transgender student in the locker room.
The incident was captured on video and sparked debate over whether their suspension was justified.
Renae Smith, the mother of one of the suspended boys, told WJLA at the time that her son was suspended with ‘no solid evidence whatsoever.’
Former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also questioned the decision, writing in a statement: ‘It’s deeply concerning to read reports of yet another incident in Loudoun County schools where members of the opposite sex are violating the privacy of students in locker rooms.’
‘Even more alarming, the victims of this violation are the ones being investigated – this is beyond belief.’
A UCLA study from February 2025 found that there is ‘no evidence that allowing transgender people into bathrooms aligning with their gender identity jeopardizes safety and privacy.’
It also found that trans people are often the victims of harassment and violence when accessing public restrooms.
