Cunningham launches podcast without ex co-host after trans debate rift

WNBA standout Sophie Cunningham has relaunched her podcast with a new name and a new co-host, months after her former on-air partner West Wilson challenged her public stance on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Cunningham has become a lightning rod for debate in recent months after speaking out about what she described as the need to “protect” girls from competing against “biological men,” comments that quickly pushed the WNBA player into the center of a national conversation.

Her remarks drew both backlash and support across the country, with demonstrations later surfacing at Indiana Fever games as activists on opposing sides of the transgender athlete debate turned up to make their views heard.

Wilson, who previously co-hosted the podcast with Cunningham, also weighed in publicly, describing transgender women’s participation in sports as a “borderline non-existent issue” in a TikTok post.

After that disagreement, fans began noticing that their podcast, Show Me Something, had not released a new episode since July 21, fueling speculation that the partnership may have quietly come to an end.

Those questions have now been answered, with Cunningham confirming the podcast’s rebrand and relaunch under the new title No Hesitation, signaling a fresh chapter without Wilson as her co-host.

Cunningham will be joined by new co-host Drew Hanlen as Wilson’s replacement.

In a statement, Cunningham said: ‘Drew and I love this sport, we could talk basketball all day. Now we will!

‘We’ll dive into everything around the WNBA and NBA and can’t wait to share our thoughts. The Volume has been an awesome partner in making that happen.’

According to Front Office Sports, changes to ‘Show Me Something’ had been in the works ‘for months’ given that their one-year deal was expiring.

However, many fans are left to believe that the split was due to their differing opinion on the debate surrounding transgender athletes in women’s sports.

After Cunningham sparked the fierce debate, Wilson appeared to distance himself from her with a telling video posted on his TikTok account.

Wilson said: ‘Transgender athletes in American sports is such a borderline nonexistent issue that right-wingers have convinced a massive portion of people in our country that these people are a threat to sports in America when mathematically, that’s not the case at all.’

Wilson went on to argue that political rhetoric around the topic serves primarily to divide the public while isolating transgender individuals.

‘There is, like, 10 transgender athletes in all of the NCAA,’ Wilson continued.

‘I think there are unique questions that can be handled on individual bases, but to allow this to take our attention from housing, healthcare, wars, all the other actual harmful s*** in our country is dumb.’

Our News Outlet has reached out to West Wilson for comment.

His remarks came on the back of Cunningham’s ESPN interview, where she said: ”I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest.

‘And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.’

She also pushed back on assumptions about her political affiliation.

‘I’m very much in the middle,’ she said. ‘I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides. And that’s all I’ve ever said about my political beliefs.’
