In Clermont, located in the Isaac region, the rain finally subsided after the town experienced its wettest day in over a century. This unprecedented rainfall resulted in significant flooding, affecting numerous homes.

The heavy downpour left a trail of destruction, damaging roads, homes, and fences throughout the area.

The downpour also resulted in a number of rescues over the past 24 hours.

In response, residents mobilized private helicopters to assist in evacuating families from their submerged homes, where water levels reached knee height.

A truck driver was also rescued by a chopper from the roof of his vehicle that became submerged in floodwaters.

Meanwhile, swift water rescue teams worked tirelessly through the night, rescuing stranded drivers who had climbed onto roofs along the Gregory Highway for safety.

Premier David Crisafulli has been on the ground this afternoon as residents survey the damage.

“I want to extend my gratitude to the swift water rescue teams and all emergency services,” stated Crisafulli.

“A special thanks also goes to the everyday heroes—neighbors helping neighbors and those who took to the skies to save strangers in need,” he added.

“Without that there would have been tragedies.”

Attention is now turning to the already flooded north-west, where significant rainfall is expected from tomorrow to Friday this week.
