Shardae Webber feels a sense of relief as police have detained Andre Myers in connection with the fatal hit-and-run involving her daughter. This arrest marks just the start of a much longer process.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The mother of the 13-year-old hit and killed in Arlington is speaking  now that a driver is behind bars.

We last spoke with the teen’s mother on Wednesday when she was calling on the person responsible to turn themself in.

Genesis Webber’s family is relieved to know the man accused of hitting her and leaving her to die is finally in custody.

For her mother, Shardae Webber, the arrest is just the beginning of a much longer journey, one filled with grief, faith and a fight for justice.

“Honestly, he shouldn’t have been let back out in the first place, but I’m relieved I’m relieved he has been caught,” said Webber.

Shardae Webber experiences a mix of relief and heartbreak after finding out about the arrest of the man accused of fatally striking her 13-year-old daughter Genesis on Tuesday.

Just a day later, police arrested 54-year-old Andre Myers and charged him in the fatal hit and run on Arlington road.

According to investigators, Myers struck Genesis with his car and kept driving.

Court records show Myers has a long history of traffic and criminal offenses.

A shocking discovery for the teen’s mom.

“There was no reason for him to be behind the wheel,” she said.

Now Shardae Webber is trying to focus on what comes next, not just justice but also healing

“I’m prepared, I’m prepared. A lot of prayer. I talk to God every day; it’s going to come naturally,” Webber stated. “I’m angry, but I’m not bitter. There’s no need for threats because God has the final say.”

Genesis’s family is committed to preserving her memory. On Saturday, October 4th at 8pm, they will host a memorial in her honor at the location on Arlington Road. The community is invited to attend.
