A 58-year-old man was found dead in a Brooklyn residence Sunday afternoon, his body badly decomposed and a knife lodged in his neck, police and sources said.
Officers went to the Bed-Stuy home for a wellness check and uncovered the disturbing scene at about 12:41 p.m. inside a brownstone at 716 Madison St., according to the NYPD.
The man was pronounced dead at the location.
Authorities have not said how long he may have been inside the home, but sources described the remains as “highly decomposed,” with the knife still protruding from his neck.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death, police said.

The man’s name has not been made public while officials work to notify his relatives.
Inside the brownstone, neighbors moved quietly through the hallways, some covering their faces as they tried to avoid the lingering odor.
Outside, residents gathered along the tree-lined Bed-Stuy block, exchanging condolences in the wake of the grim discovery.
“That’s crazy, I just see him, Friday night. He was out here on the steps,” one neighbor told The Post.
“He let everybody in that crib. I see him every day when I walk my dog.”
The grisly find comes weeks after a putrid odor led cops to discover a man’s decaying corpse in a Staten Island home.
