Democrat Tom Suozzi caught dozing off during Trump's SOTU

During Donald Trump’s lengthy State of the Union address, which stretched close to two hours, a couple of Democratic lawmakers seemed to struggle to stay alert.

New York’s Tom Suozzi, aged 63, and Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz, aged 59, were noticeably battling fatigue as the president’s speech carried on throughout Tuesday night.

Suozzi’s drowsiness was particularly apparent just before a significant moment in the address when Trump attempted to rally Democrats for a standing ovation. This was centered around his assertion that ‘the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens – not illegal aliens.’

The Congressman from Long Island, who had recently admitted to supporters that he felt he ‘failed’ by voting for ICE funding, was seen with his head resting in his hands, seemingly on the verge of dozing off.

Even when Suozzi managed to open his eyes, his expression remained one of weariness, his hand fixed to his face.

In the aftermath, Suozzi did not attempt to refute the notion of his fatigue on social media, seemingly embracing the reality of being worn out by the extended address.

‘I have always had a hard time staying awake watching reruns,’ he said, captioning a photo of him from the address.

As the president was slamming predecessor Joe Biden and the Democrat Party for open borders policies and having ‘drained the wealth out of hardworking people,’ Wasserman Schultz appears to scratch at her eyes.

She then looks downwards and fiddles with her hands as Trump called out ‘Biden and his corrupt partners in Congress.’

Wasserman Schultz didn’t directly reference her fatigue but referred to the speech as a ‘revolting 2-hr awards show – with lies for commercial breaks.’

‘He mocked the sky high healthcare, home insurance and small biz costs most Americans like my SOTU guest face. Life is more expensive than ever. And Americans deserve better. I will fight for them 24/7.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House and Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz for comment.

Trump delivered a State of the Union address for the ages Tuesday night, a two-hour spectacle of standing ovations, an ejected Democrat and a presidential broadside against his own Supreme Court justices.

He walked into the House Chamber to cheers, whistles and attempted selfies from lawmakers before taking the podium to signal an aggressive new phase of his presidency.

‘Our nation is back, bigger, stronger and better than before,’ Trump started as cheers rang out from his Republican allies. ‘This is the golden age of America.’

Before he could even begin, proceedings devolved into anarchy as Democrat Al Green was bounced from the chamber for holding up a racially-charged sign.

The Squad progressives piled on, with Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib calling him a ‘murderer’ after ICE agents killed two protestors in recent months.

Trump refused to back down, instead snapping back at the ‘crazy’ liberals and leaning into the signature ‘America First’ pillars that returned him to power.

Those included praising ICE raids across the country, touting the economy and slamming the Supreme Court decision striking down his signature tariffs.

‘After just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved a transformation like no one has ever seen before. A turnaround for the ages,’ Trump remarked.

He also revealed the exact ‘secret’ words he needs to hear from Tehran to pull back from the brink of war: ‘We will never have a nuclear weapon.’

First Lady Melania Trump was joined by her son Barron, 19, in a surprise public appearance as the President’s other adult children gathered to watch their father in a display of unity and support.

Top Cabinet members including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent cheered his biggest accomplishments over the last 13 months.
