Sara Polston served only 73 days of an eight-year prison sentence after drunkenly crashing her Cadillac Escalade into a Kia driven by a 19-year-old woman, leaving the victim severely disabled.
Now, the 44-year-old wife of a well-connected lawyer is back behind bars after allegedly voting twice in local elections despite being a convicted felon.
Polston, from Norman, Oklahoma, was charged Friday with two felony counts of illegal voting.
Prosecutors allege that she cast a ballot in a Republican primary in June of this year and voted again in an August runoff primary.
Polston has not commented on the allegations or entered a plea. She remains in jail awaiting her next court appearance.
Noble McIntyre, the attorney representing crash victim Micaela Borrego, believes Polston may have acted out of a desire to retaliate against the attorney general who publicly humiliated her after the DUI case.
Polston sparked nationwide outrage in February this year when she was released after serving only a small fraction of her sentence for the 2023 crash.

Polston, a close associate of Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, served just 73 days of an eight-year sentence after drunkenly crashing into a teenager and leaving her severely injured
The drunk driver, who lives in a $2.4 million mansion with a large outdoor pool, was released after driving her black SUV into Borrego’s much smaller Kia Soul at 66 mph.
Polston had been drinking margaritas and was on her way to collect her children from school when the crash occurred.
She escaped with barely any injuries and was captured on police bodycam footage complaining about pain in her wrist.
Borrego suffered far more serious consequences. The collision caused a stroke, and doctors fear it may have reduced her life expectancy by as much as 10 years.
Borrego, now 22, also sustained brain damage and permanent disabilities. She had to relearn how to walk and speak.

Her mother, Krista, has since become her full-time caregiver and said she was not warned in advance that Polston would be released early.
Polston pleaded guilty to felony causing greater bodily injury while driving under the influence. Anger in Oklahoma intensified when she was released to a GPS monitor slightly more than two months after entering prison.
A grand jury found that Oklahoma’s Republican Governor Kevin Stitt made multiple calls on Polston’s behalf to the top official at the state’s Department of Corrections.
He went to school with Polston’s husband Rod and the pair were fraternity brothers while at college. The Polstons donated $27,000 to Stitt’s political campaigns and once hosted a fundraiser for him at their mansion, the grand jury found.
Stitt angrily denied meddling in his old friend’s wife’s criminal case.
Noble McIntyre, Borrego’s attorney, speculated to Our News Outlet that the seeds of Polston’s latest arrest may have been sown in what followed her prison release.
The Republican gubernatorial primary elections she voted in saw Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond face off against businessman Mike Mazzei, who ultimately won the GOP nomination.

Attorney General Gentner Drummond is seen here in a January 2024 file photo. Micaela Borrego’s lawyer has speculated as to whether a desire to get revenge on Drummond for humiliating her may have prompted Polston to allegedly vote illegally
It was Drummond who empaneled a grand jury to investigate Polston’s early release for maiming Borrego.
That grand jury hearing heaped humiliation on Polston.
As well as the aforementioned calls between Governor Stitt and her husband, it also revealed the VIP treatment Polston received while in prison.
Polston was allowed to move to a different cell because she wanted to watch TV and was permitted a second move after moaning that her new accommodation was too noisy.
Her husband couriered Chick-Fil-A to her to give her a break from prison gruel and Polston was given a tablet computer ‘in a manner outside of normal procedure,’ the grand jury found.
McIntyre has now questioned whether Polston may have wanted to get revenge on Drummond for that grand jury probe – and potentially voted for his rival to do so.
He said: ‘What I know is a felon out on parole cannot vote. She chose to. My guess is she chose to vote for Mazzei because of her hatred for Genter Drummond who was the other candidate, and who was the attorney general who led the investigation into her parole in the first place.’

Attorney General Drummond has since chimed in on her most recent arrest, saying in a statement: ‘Sara Polston has again shown Oklahomans that she believes she does not have to be held accountable for her actions.
‘She belongs in prison for causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol that resulted in great bodily injury to an innocent young woman.
‘Now, she has used her highly controversial and inappropriate release to the Department of Corrections GPS surveillance program to again flout the law. The reality is that no one, including Sara Polston, is above the law.’
Cleveland County District Attorney Jennifer Austin, who will try Polston’s latest charges, said in a statement: ‘I received information that Sara Polston had illegally voted in two elections this year.
‘I referred the information to OSBI to conduct an investigation which resulted in the filing of these two charges.
‘Voting laws exist to protect integrity of our elections and apply equally to everyone. When evidence of a violation is presented to our office, we have a responsibility to review and file the appropriate charges.
‘I objected to Defendant Polston being released from DOC on the GPS monitoring program earlier this year, and commend DOC’s decision to terminate her from that program at this time.’
A spokesperson for the state’s DOC told Our News Outlet: ‘Due to an ongoing investigation, Sara Polston’s custody status was changed on Thursday, Oct. 1, removing her from the GPS program and returning her to physical custody.
‘She is currently housed at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in McLoud, Oklahoma.’
