A diver from the Maldives tragically lost his life while participating in the search for five Italian tourists who perished during a scuba diving trip earlier this week, according to recent reports.
Sergeant Major Mohamed Mahudhee became unwell on the third day of recovery efforts in the Vaavu Atoll, as reported by The Sun, which cited a translated post from the Maldivian military’s social media. Despite being swiftly taken to the hospital, Mahudhee could not be saved.

The military expressed their sorrow, reportedly stating, “His bravery, sacrifice, and dedication to the nation will always be honored. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and fellow service members.”
Mahudhee was among a team of eight divers engaged in the search operation for the bodies of Monica Montefalcone, a marine biology professor from the University of Genoa, and her 20-year-old daughter, Giorgia Sommacal. The pair went missing during a dive on Thursday.
Also part of the tragic incident were Muriel Oddenino from Turin, Gianluca Benedetti from Padua, and Federico Gualtieri from Borgomanero, who did not emerge from a 160-foot dive into an underwater cave.
