LAKESIDE —
Sheriff’s deputies took a woman into custody early Thursday after she allegedly drove the wrong way on a freeway, barricaded herself inside her car on a Lakeside street and rammed several patrol cars.
Deputies responded to assist California Highway Patrol officers with a wrong-way driver on state Route 67 around 1 a.m. and located the woman on Gold Bar Way, said sheriff’s Lt. Aaron Meleen.
She had backed a Chevrolet Camaro into a parking spot and barricaded herself in her vehicle, Meleen said. He said deputies requested crisis negotiators respond to the scene.
At some point, the woman drove toward deputies and crashed into multiple patrol cars, he said. No deputies were reported injured.
ABC 10News reported that the woman had live-streamed the incident on Facebook.
The station showed video of the driver spinning out and crashing into a curb. A deputy is seen smashing a window of the Camaro to get to the driver.
Meleen said the woman was taken out of the car shortly before 3 a.m. After being checked out and cleared at a hospital, she was booked into Las Colinas jail, he said.
