Elon Musk Warns Democrats’ Midterm Win Could Bring Worst-Case Scenario

Elon Musk, the largest political donor in U.S. history, is warning that Democratic victories in the midterm elections could create a “permanent one-party state” and bring about the end of American democracy.

In a post Friday morning on his social media platform X, Musk said his “biggest concern” if Democrats capture both chambers of Congress is that they would establish a liberal supermajority that could prove impossible to reverse.

He outlined three possible outcomes if Democrats take control of the Capitol.

First, Musk said Democrats would quickly grant statehood to Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. He argued that adding their representatives and senators to Congress would give liberals a lasting political advantage.

Even if Democrats secured 60 Senate seats—an extremely unlikely scenario—they would still be unable to advance such sweeping changes while President Trump remains in the White House for another two years.

Musk also claimed Democrats would “open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority” of voters he believes would likely lean to the left.

Democrats have supported a path to citizenship for long-term undocumented immigrants alongside stronger border security, but no major Democratic proposal advocates open borders.

Finally, the technology executive warned that Democrats would seek to expand the Supreme Court in an effort to create a majority over its predominantly conservative bench.

Musk, both the world’s richest man and the largest donor to US politics in the modern era, has given away over $735 million to primarily Republicans in the last three years

Several prominent Democrats have endorsed expanding the court in recent months, arguing that Republicans improperly blocked Merrick Garland’s nomination in 2016 and accelerated Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation in 2020.

“This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word,” Musk wrote.

“That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.”

Musk said Republicans would need to retain at least 51 Senate seats after the 2028 presidential election to prevent that outcome.

His political spending has matched the urgency of his warnings. The world’s richest man has contributed nearly half a billion dollars to the 2026 elections.

Federal filings show that Musk had given more than $445 million to federal political committees by mid-October.

That is more than twice the roughly $177 million donated by Democratic megadonor George Santos during the 2022 midterm cycle, when he was the country’s largest individual political donor.

Including the nearly $300 million Musk gave primarily to Republicans during the 2024 election, the Tesla founder’s political contributions over the past several years exceed $735 million.

“The Democrats intend to cement one-party rule forever and make ‘democracy’ meaningless, as they have done in California,” Musk wrote Friday on X.

The latest data from prediction market Kalshi heavily favors Democrats in contests for both the House and Senate.

Kalshi gives Democrats a 92 percent chance of winning the House and a 70 percent chance of taking the Senate.

Republicans appear vulnerable across the country, from Alaska and Texas to Maine.

Democrats Mary Peltola, James Talarico and Troy Jackson lead their Republican challengers in the latest surveys, although many of those margins fall within the margin of error and the races remain competitive.

With endangered Republicans seeking help from Trump, the president has been traveling across the country and holding rallies to support GOP candidates.

Trump is scheduled to appear Friday at a rally in deep-red Daytona Beach, Florida, an area he carried by more than 20 points in 2024.

The president has focused his campaign appearances on reliably Republican districts rather than more closely contested areas.

Even during visits to swing states including Ohio, Michigan, Arizona and Georgia, as well as newer additions Kansas and Iowa, Trump has largely chosen Republican strongholds over purple districts.

The approach suggests he is concentrating on areas where Republicans are defending vulnerable seats instead of taking his MAGA message into competitive districts to win over independents.

As voting approaches, Trump’s campaign schedule has been marked by cancellations and changes.

The president canceled planned stops in Iowa and Kansas earlier this week, but by Friday morning both visits had been reinstated.
