Erika Kirk in NYT Interview: ‘God’s Plan Is Always Greater than Ours’

Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk shared with the New York Times the sentiment, “God’s plan is always greater than ours,” during a discussion about her late husband, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who tragically lost his life on September 10.

In conversation with the Times on Thursday, Mrs. Erika Kirk reflected, just days before a tribute service for her husband scheduled for Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Reports indicate an overwhelming interest to attend the event, far exceeding the stadium’s 63,400 capacity.

She opened up about the solace she finds in scripture following the tragic incident at Utah Valley University, where her husband was killed by alleged assailant Tyler Robinson, 22. Mrs. Kirk expressed that at times scripture captivates her imagination vividly.

“To remain peaceful while saying, ‘Thy will be done. I submit to it.’ Am I happy? No. He was my life’s greatest love, my soulmate, my closest companion. But God’s plan is always greater than ours,” she mentioned.

Shortly after Kirk was killed, Mrs. Erika Kirk tweeted Psalm 46:1, which states, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

When questioned by his transgender partner about his motive, Robinson reportedly responded, “I was fed up with his hatred. Some hate can’t be reasoned with,” according to Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray. Robinson allegedly inscribed messages on the spent shell casings, such as “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “O Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao,” referencing a well-known Italian song among radical left-wing groups like Antifa.

Mrs. Erika Kirk reiterated to the Times that she believed her husband’s assassination “was God’s plan.”

“I’m a strong believer that this was God’s plan. And it’s so clear-cut. It couldn’t be more Charlie,” she said.

Mrs. Kirk also shared her experience of seeing her husband’s body, despite being warned by a sheriff at the hospital, describing it as though “Jesus rescued him” in his final moments.

“His eyes were semi-open,” she told the Times. “And he had this knowing, Mona Lisa-like half-smile. Like he’d died happy. Like Jesus rescued him. The bullet came, he blinked, and he was in heaven.”

Mrs. Erika Kirk, who was unanimously elected as Turning Point USA’s CEO and Chair of the Board on Wednesday, is slated to deliver remarks at her husband’s tribute service Sunday.
