A seasoned member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, with nearly three decades of service, finds himself in the midst of a legal battle following an arrest for suspected DUI in St. Johns County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A long-serving officer from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has been transferred to a different role after facing criminal charges in a neighboring jurisdiction.

Raymond Goethe, who has dedicated 28 years to his position, was taken into custody late Friday night by a St. Johns County deputy, accused of driving under the influence, as per a JSO statement.

Currently serving as a patrol officer, Goethe was reportedly stopped by the deputy while heading north on U.S. 1. Details regarding what initially led to this traffic stop remain undisclosed. Following an on-site interview, Goethe was arrested for DUI and subsequently held at the St. Johns County jail.

At the time of the incident, Goethe was not on duty and was driving his personal vehicle. In light of the arrest, he has been reassigned within the department while the criminal investigation unfolds.

Goethe was not on duty at the time and was in his own vehicle, according to JSO. He has since been administratively reassigned to a different position as a criminal investigation is conducted.

This is the first arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office employee in 2026.
