Late Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) unveiled surveillance footage showing the suspect who assassinated Charlie Kirk escaping from a rooftop at Utah Valley University.
The footage depicted the assassin, clad in black, sprinting across the rooftop shortly after the shooting on Wednesday. The video captured the suspect — whose identity remains unknown — descending into an outdoor parking lot and then crossing into a wooded area across the street. According to the FBI, the murderer hid the weapon there, and it was retrieved the next day.
Governor Spencer Cox of Utah expressed confidence that law enforcement would successfully identify and apprehend the killer. Despite this, the FBI, alongside state and local authorities, sought assistance from the public, releasing enhanced images of the suspect and reminding everyone about the $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
FBI Director Kash Patel, a friend of Kirk’s, personally traveled to Utah to oversee the case. At a press conference, he refrained from speaking, and officials chose to not address questions from the media.
Authorities emphasized the crucial role of public input in solving the crime and highlighted a tip line where individuals can provide information, including submitting videos and photos.
Governor Cox said that officials had already begun the process of collecting affidavits for use in demanding the death penalty for the assassin.
