ESCONDIDO —
A fire extensively damaged a second-floor storage space of a bath-product business in downtown Escondido early Monday before firefighters were able to put it out, a fire official said.
The fire was reported around 5 a.m. at the building on the corner of West Grand Avenue and Maple Street. It was first spotted by someone who flagged down a police officer driving in the area, Escondido Fire Department spokesman Jeff Murdock said.
The blaze gutted the second floor of the Twisted Allure business, which manufactures and sells “spooky/cute-inspired soaps” and other products, according to its website. The first floor was “still pretty much intact; their inventory was spared,” Murdock said. A damage estimate wasn’t immediately available.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
It took crews about 50 minutes to contain the fire, and firefighters stayed around the scene to mop up until nearly 9 a.m., he said.
No one was inside the building when the fire started, Murdock said. No injuries were reported.
