Five people were hospitalized Wednesday after three firebomb attacks before dawn that appeared to target homes linked to members of Greece’s governing conservative New Democracy party, authorities said.
The incidents took place in Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, between 4 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. outside apartment buildings. Officials said the attackers used makeshift explosive devices fashioned from camping gas canisters.
Police said all of the reported injuries occurred during the third attack, which also left several cars and motorcycles in flames.
One of the vehicles was reportedly owned by a parliamentary candidate from the New Democracy party.
According to police, the candidate suffered burns, while her mother was admitted to intensive care with burn injuries.

Three other residents of the same apartment building were also taken to hospital after inhaling smoke, police said.
Greece has seen relatively frequent attacks by obscure militant groups targeting symbols of authority, including politicians, police and other public figures, as well as their property.
Such attacks most often result in property damage, though injuries are uncommon.
A bomb exploded in July 2025 outside the Thessaloniki home of the president of Greece’s association of prison guards.
The prison guard association president was unharmed but two others suffered minor injuries from shattered glass.
In June 2024, a police officer guarding the home of a top judge in Athens was injured in a gasoline bomb attack.
