If I said I wouldn’t have loved to see the histrionic reactions of gun grabbers in Santa Rosa County, Florida, upon hearing their sheriff not only welcome homeowners to shoot intruders but also say he prefers they do, I would be lying my Second Amendment-loving head off. Yo, David Hogg — got a minute for comment?

As reported by Just the News, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson made his strong as hell “stand your ground” comments last week after serial-criminal Brandon J. Harris, 32, allegedly broke into several homes in Pace, Florida. One of the homeowners fired shots at Harris but missed. He was later captured by law enforcement officers, Johnson said.

Probably 20 deputies get there, the dogs are out, and he’s jumping fences and breaking into houses as he goes. One of the homeowners, he was breaking into their house, and they shot at him. So he continues to run, we finally corner him in a house that he broke into on Tom Sawyer (Road) and we cornered him in a bedroom.

As noted by JTN, Harris was a habitual criminal. He had his first brush with the law when he was just 13 years old and has since been arrested at least 17 times. “He just can’t seem to get the picture that crime does not pay,” said Sheriff Johnson.

Johnson said during a press conference that while law enforcement officials don’t know which homeowner shot at Harris, the shooter did nothing wrong and would not face charges, while also not only inviting county residents to go full-metal on intruders — but to also learn to “shoot better.”

I want to say, as to the person — we don’t know which homeowner shot him — I guess they think that they did something wrong, which they did not; if somebody’s breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County; we prefer that you do, actually.

So whoever that was, you’re not in trouble; come see us. We have a gun safety class that we put on every other Saturday — and if you take that you’ll shoot a lot better and hopefully you’ll save the taxpayers money.

BOOM. Literally. And, hell yeah — the old “taxpayer relief shot.”

Sheriff Johnson wasn’t the first Florida law enforcement to encourage homeowners to shoot looters breaking into their homes. As reported by The New York Post in June 2020, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd also encouraged homeowners to open fire on intruders:

I would tell [looters], if you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded.

“And if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, Sheriff Judd added, “I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone.”

The bottom line:

How encouraging is it to see respected law enforcement officers (and I loathe this trite, over-used saying) “say the quiet part out loud”? To advise homeowners, with conviction, to not only stand their ground during break-ins but also to use their Second Amendment rights to protect their property and the lives of their loved ones. And even better, to “shoot better” and save taxpayers the expense of career criminals like Brandon Harris.

Perhaps it would be inappropriate for me to say I hope the next time Harris breaks into a home — after he is no doubt released from prison for the umpteenth time — an armed homeowner does exactly what Sheriff Bob Johnson suggested, so I won’t.
