Former MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd is facing allegations of harboring animosity toward a former colleague during their tenure at the network.

Greta Van Susteren, now a host for Newsmax, alleged on Tuesday via the social media platform X that Todd consistently refused to hand over his show to hers during their shared stint at MSNBC in 2017.

Van Susteren, aged 71, suggested that Todd’s purportedly unfriendly conduct was due to personal dislike, stemming from her popularity as a host.

Her comments were in response to a tweet from Todd, who had called for an investigation into ICE agents allegedly brandishing a firearm at an off-duty officer in Minnesota.

‘If you care about ICE’s credibility, you’d want an investigation. Because the allegation is chilling,’ Todd, 53, wrote as a caption.

Van Susteren, whose brief show “For The Record” aired after Todd’s “Meet the Press Daily,” stated, “Phil Griffin, the former President of MSNBC, informed me that you refused to transition live to my 6 pm show from your 5 pm slot because you were upset that MSNBC hired me and you didn’t like me.”

She added, “For the record, I never did anything to you.”

When contacted by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, Todd cast doubt on his ex-colleague’s claims.

‘I don’t recall anything like that, so I don’t have any comments to offer,’ he said.

As of writing, Van Susteren’s post has been viewed more than 300,000 times.

Griffin, meanwhile, left MSNBC in early 2021 and is now retired.

Todd left the network of his own accord in January 2025, after a successful 18 years.

He initially joined NBC News in 2007 as a political director, during which time he regularly appeared on MSNBC shows like Morning Joe and The Rachel Maddow Show to offer expertise.

He was named the network’s chief White House correspondent in 2008 and was promoted to helm Meet the Press in 2014.

He expanded the program the following year with an hour on MSNBC called ‘MTP Daily’ – the 5pm slot Van Susteren referred to.

She joined MSNBC from Fox News on January 9, 2017. She started her journalism career as a legal analyst for CNN in the early 90s.

Now a host for Newsmax, Van Susteren’s less than eight-month stint at MSNBC was plagued by poor ratings.

During contract renewal negotiations, she left the network by invoking the departure option in her contract.

‘For the Record with Greta’, meanwhile, was perpetually the lowest-rated program on the liberal news network in both total viewers and the key 25-54 demographic.

The show also appeared to be shedding viewers from Todd’s.

Despite a lead-in from Todd’s high-rated program, tens of thousands of viewers left only to return for Chris Matthews’ ‘Hardball’ after her program was over.

Today, Todd is an independent journalist. Van Susteren joined Newsmax in 2022. She is known for a hard-hitting, centrist-leaning approach to journalism.
