Who Is Melissa Arbuckle? Australian Mom With Mental Health Issues Found Guilty For Killing Her Daughter

The mom had a “seriously deranged mind” when she killed her daughter, according to court documents.

Melissa Arbuckle Arrested: Who Is She?

Melissa Arbuckle is a 32 years old mother from Melbourne who killed her three-month-old infant by placing it on railway lines. She was arrested and appeared in the Victorian Supreme Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to one count of infanticide in July last year.

According to the Daily Mail, Arbuckle was taking her daughter on a stroll when she began exploring the internet for information about trains. She searched about train speed, schedules, and railway derailments.

A train driver observed Arbuckle carrying Lily close to her bosom as she walked along the rails in Upwey, Melbourne’s east.

The crown prosecutor, Robyn Harper stated that Arbuckle waved at the train with her daughter’s hand. According to accounts, the train driver noticed the mother moving suspiciously across the track and triggered the emergency brakes.

Arbuckle then placed her daughter Lily on the tracks and attempted to lay down as the train slammed them both.

The train driver informed investigators that he closed his eyes when he realized a collision was imminent. Onlookers hurried to the incident and discovered the mother and her baby on the tracks.

The baby was transported to the hospital but died soon after due to head injuries.

Why Did Melissa Arbuckle Kill Her Daughter?

Melissa Arbuckle murdered her infant daughter after mistaking her for suffering from Shaken baby syndrome. She realized it was unavoidable that she would die.

The shaken baby syndrome is severe brain damage caused by violently shaking a newborn or toddler. It kills a child’s brain cells and stops oxygen from reaching the brain. This type of child maltreatment can result in irreversible brain damage or even death.

However, to her support, Ms. Tittensor told the court, ‘This conduct was performed by someone with a seriously damaged mind.’

She stated, “‘She had a set delusional idea that she had damaged her kid, and she and her child were both broken.” According to her, Arbuckle’s strong desire to be an idle mother reflects her meticulous attitude and a strong need for control.

Arbuckle does not intend to have another child, according to her lawyer because of fear of endangering another kid.

Meet Melissa Arbuckle’s Husband- How Is Her Mental Health?

Melissa Arbuckle’s husband has remained anonymous in the public eye. He does, however, harbor hatred for Ms. Arbuckle, from whom he is now estranged.

Ms. Arbuckle, according to defense attorney Megan Tittensor, was suffering from severe postpartum depression and psychosis. Her melancholy was the driving force behind her choice to kill herself and her young daughter.

She may be receiving treatment for her problem, but she keeps it a secret. Despite her mental illness, netizens do not believe that murdering one’s child and avoiding punishment is justifiable.
