The Pentagon on Tuesday identified a fourth American soldier believed to have died in recent Iranian attacks on US military installations, as US forces carried out strikes on Iran for an 11th consecutive night.
Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, is believed to have been killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to a statement from the Department of War.
The department said the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation, noting that US Central Command had previously listed Rampersad as missing.
His status has since been changed to Duty Status–Whereabouts Unknown, and officials believe he is deceased, the statement said.
Rampersad was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, a Germany-based unit.
The Pentagon had earlier identified Army First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Hawaii, and Pfc. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Texas, as service members killed in the attack on the US base in Jordan.
A separate fatality was reported Sunday in Iraq, where Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton of North Carolina was killed while disarming a downed Iranian drone.
The confirmed US military death toll in the Iran war has now risen to 18 service members.
City Council Speaker Julie Menin and Queens Councilwoman Joann Ariola released a joint statement on Tuesday night, reacting to the news about Rampersad.
“Tonight, our city mourns the presumed loss of Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, an Ozone Park resident who died this past weekend in Jordan serving her country,” they said.
“[Our] thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as they grieve the loss of their beloved. As this conflict continues in the Middle East, we pray that all our service members remain safe and return home to their families,” the statement continued.
The Pentagon announced the presumed death of Rampersad as CENTCOM revealed US forces were once again striking Iran.
“CENTCOM forces began striking military targets in Iran at 7 p.m. ET today for the 11th consecutive night,” the combatant command wrote on X.
“The strikes are designed to continue degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM added.
US forces “successfully completed” their latest mission just over an hour later, at 8:15 p.m. ET.
“CENTCOM assets targeted Iranian military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” Central Command said in a statement
CENTCOM noted Iran has launched “unwarranted attacks” on “more than 30 commercial vessels” transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the last three months.
“Despite Iranian aggression, the Strait of Hormuz remains open for commercial vessel transit,” the combatant command said. “Since early May, CENTCOM forces have helped facilitate the transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels and 450 million barrels of crude oil.”
