Former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, along with his employer Fox Sports, are facing a lawsuit by a man who claims Sanchez attacked him before an ensuing stabbing incident over the weekend.

The lawsuit brought forth by Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver, accuses Sanchez of “assault and battery, and Fox of negligent hiring, retention, and supervision,” according to Sports Illustrated.

The stabbing incident took place in Indianapolis, where Sanchez was present to cover the Colts’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox Sports. As reported by the Daily Mail:

The former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator, in the city for Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders, was arrested on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and public intoxication following the early Saturday morning altercation.

Reports indicate that the driver initially used pepper spray on Sanchez before deploying a knife, reportedly striking him ‘two or three times’ as Sanchez allegedly kept advancing toward him.

Sanchez was immediately taken to the hospital with severe injuries, but both Fox Sports and Indianapolis police later announced his stable condition as of Saturday afternoon. Disturbing hospital photographs have surfaced showing the alleged victim with a significant wound on his face, although he is reportedly ‘okay’ despite the injuries depicted.

Upon his release from the hospital on Sunday, Sanchez was immediately sent to jail and later released on a $300 cash bond. He has been charged with two misdemeanors and a battery felony charge.

“Sanchez’s misdemeanor of “unlawful entry of a motor vehicle” came from the moment he entered Pole’s vehicle without permission after telling Pole he wasn’t allowed to be in the alley. Sanchez then shoved Tole, causing the driver to pepper spray Sanchez in self-defense, which was previously known. When Sanchez didn’t back down from the physical altercation, Tole stabbed him two or three times,” noted Sports Illustrated.

Tole included Fox Sports in the suit, alleging that the company should have been aware of the former quarterback’s  “unfitness as an employee, propensity for drinking, and/or harmful conduct.”
