A 43-year-old man from Florida landed in jail after he allegedly brandished a firearm at a group of children, threatening to fire upon them and remarking that he wanted to “watch them bleed out” after they caused a disturbance near his boat.

The incident came to light on Saturday when a man reported to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department that he had a verbal confrontation with another individual. This altercation started after the man offered him whiskey, which he turned down, resulting in the other person’s irritation, as detailed by WOFL. The witness provided a description of the man, noting that he departed from the boat area in a white Nissan Frontier towing a white Key West boat.

Subsequently, according to an official statement, a minor informed the police that a man had pointed a firearm at his friends while they were on the water. Although he was not part of the incident, he presented officers with video evidence from his phone. Additional minors involved in the event came forward and recounted the incident.

The youths explained that the man became enraged when they created a wake near his boat, after which he drew a firearm, directed it at them, and threatened to “shoot them and watch them bleed out,” according to their testimonies.

After a search, investigators found the Nissan Frontier and identified the owner as Christopher Evensen. Evensen admitted he had an argument with the kids but insisted he did not have a firearm.

Evensen faces charges of aggravated assault and improper display of a dangerous weapon and has been detained in the Volusia County jail, according to a statement from the New Smyrna Beach police.
