Hailey Bieber has revealed that she has privately struggled with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) since the birth of her son, Jack, two years ago.
The 29-year-old model and beauty entrepreneur welcomed Jack, whom she shares with her husband Justin Bieber, 32, in August 2024.
Speaking to WWD last week, she said: “After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it.”
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, PMDD is “a much more severe form of premenstrual syndrome” and may be linked to a serotonin deficiency.
The Rhode founder said opening up about the condition has helped ease the isolation she once felt.
“Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she told the publication. “When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and [talk] about the things we’re dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”

Bieber said she is also committed to highlighting women’s health concerns, particularly because several people close to her have dealt with conditions that remain poorly understood.
“I feel really drawn to women’s health. I have a sister who struggles with PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome],” she said, referring to her older sister, Alaia Baldwin, 33.
Rhode, the company founded by the mother of one, has announced plans to donate $5 million to the Foundation For Women’s Health over the next three years.
The nonprofit research fund was created to address persistent gaps in women’s health research.
The initiative comes more than a year after e.l.f. Beauty acquired Rhode in a reported $1 billion deal.
Katy Brodsky Falco, founder and executive director of the Foundation For Women’s Health, said the partnership sends a powerful message to young women.
“This $5 million gift to Foundation for Women’s Health messages very strongly to young women, who are the next generation of leaders, mothers, athletes, change makers, that the long-standing gender equity gap is not acceptable,” she said.

She added that “the visibility that Rhode brings is perhaps unparalleled.”
Bieber’s PMDD diagnosis is not her only significant health challenge. In 2022, she suffered a mini-stroke and later underwent heart surgery.

Discussing the experience on Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast, she said: “I think that situation made me a little bit extra hyper aware of my body, a little bit more nervous about things and staying on top of them.”
“I’ve just always been really focused and fascinated on health, and it was also kind of what led me to want to do Rhode. My obsession with skincare also comes from my obsession with medicine.”
The entrepreneur previously described the medical emergency shortly after it happened, saying doctors told her she had experienced a blood clot in her brain.
In a YouTube video at the time, she recalled: “We were in the middle of talking and all of a sudden, I felt this really weird sensation that kind of, like, traveled down my arm from my shoulder all the way down to my fingertips, and it made my fingertips feel really numb and weird.”
She initially tried moving her fingers to determine what was happening. However, when her husband asked her a question, she found that she could not respond.
In April, Rhode was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential Companies. Reflecting on the acquisition, Bieber told the magazine: “I felt really stretched in a lot of ways.”
“There’s a lot of change happening all at once. It really showed me as a woman, as a businesswoman, as an entrepreneur, as a mom, as a wife, as a friend – really what my capacity was.”
She also said she plans to continue expanding her business ventures, while emphasizing that she is in no hurry.
“I’m an entrepreneur at the end of the day. I want to expand in business and I want to be able to do more things – but I’m definitely not in a rush,” she said.
Bieber launched Rhode in June 2022 with just three products: Peptide Glazing Fluid, Barrier Restore Cream and Peptide Lip Treatment.
