Labour heading for crushing defeat in Wales
Following a significant setback in England, the Labour Party seems to be facing a potential landslide defeat in Wales.
Historically dominant in Wales for over a century, Labour has consistently secured the most seats in the Welsh Parliament since its inception more than twenty years ago.
However, the party is now preparing for a harsh outcome in its once-secure strongholds.
Sir Keir Starmer, Labour’s leader, has already acknowledged his responsibility for the challenging results in local elections across England, which saw the loss of hundreds of Labour councillors.
In Wales, reports from within Labour suggest a significant drop in support in areas such as Blaenau Gwent, Caerffili, and Rhymni. It is reportedly a ‘struggle’ to retain even one of the six seats in this region, known for its Labour loyalty in South Wales.
Additionally, Baroness Eluned Morgan, the First Minister and leader of Welsh Labour, has previously expressed concerns about potentially losing her seat in the Ceredigion Penfro constituency during this election.
