Attorneys for Foolio murder suspect can't mention domestic violence incidents

On Tuesday, the state submitted a motion declaring that previous domestic violence cases involving Alicia Andrews and Isaiah Chance, who is also accused in Foolio’s murder, are considered “hearsay.”

TAMPA, Fla. — Before her trial, which starts on Monday, a judge decided that Alicia Andrews’ defense team, who is one of five individuals accused of being involved in the Jacksonville rapper Foolio’s murder, cannot discuss any past domestic violence incidents between her and her boyfriend, who faces similar charges in Foolio’s murder case.

Andrews, 22, faces two charges in Foolio’s 2024 death: first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

The rapper, whose real name is Charles Jones, was celebrating his birthday in Tampa when he was shot and killed on June 23, 2024.

According to the Tampa Police Department, Andrews helped her boyfriend, Isaiah Chance Jr., in locating and pursuing Jones and his group to two different locations on the evening of the shooting.

In a motion submitted by the prosecutors on Tuesday, it was indicated that previous domestic violence incidents between Andrews and Chance are deemed “hearsay” and not pertinent to the proceedings, as “duress is not a valid defense for principals or assistants in intentional homicide cases in Florida.”

The following day, Judge Michelle Sisco, who will oversee the trial, agreed with the state’s motion. Consequently, Andrews’ legal team will be prohibited from mentioning past domestic violence incidents between Andrews and Chance, as it would “only serve to bias the jury against the prosecution.”

Police did not label Andrews as one of the individuals who shot Foolio. According to Tampa police, Rashad Murphy, Sean Gathright, and Davion Murphy are identified as the shooters. Their trial will be conducted later, alongside Chance.

JSO SWAT officers arrested Andrews and Chance at a home in Jacksonville’s Oceanway area on June 27, 2024, according to Andrews’ arrest report.

Upon arrival, police notified Andrews and Chance that the place was surrounded, they had a search warrant, and that they were not leaving. The report says officers were giving instructions for 15-20 minutes before Chance and Andrews exited the home.

Both were arrested upon exiting the residence. Andrews was charged with resisting an officer without violence.

Police and prosecutors said the motive for Jones’ murder is tied to an ongoing feud spanning years between Jones’ 6 Block gang and two rival Jacksonville gangs, ATK and 1200 allied together. Chance is a documented ATK gang member, and Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy are documented 1200 gang members, police said.

The feud between 6 Block and its rival gangs ATK and 1200 has spanned over a decade, with dozens of murders by and against both sides, police said.

Jacksonville rapper Ksoo, whose real name is Hakeem Robinson, was found guilty just last month for the 2020 murder of Charles McCormick. Robinson is a documented member of ATK, while McCormick was a member of 6 Block.

Robinson is also charged in Foolio’s brother’s murder.

Andrews’ trial is scheduled to take place over 10 days, court records show.
