Storm Team 3: Dangerous heat and humidity are expected through the weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. () – A “heat dome” will form over the area this weekend, continuing into Monday, driven by high pressure positioned just off the coast. This setup is drawing in hot, humid air from the southwest, causing high temperatures to approach 100°F each day through Monday. Due to added humidity, the heat index values might soar up to 110°F.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for our coastal counties today, effective from 11 AM to 8 PM. Further advisories may be released for Sunday and Monday as the intense heat continues.

Unfortunately, relief will be minimal. Winds will stay light, and there’s only a slight chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon hours each day through Monday.

Heat Safety Tips:

  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water
  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even briefly
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can develop quickly in these conditions—take this heat seriously.

Looking ahead, relief is on the way! A cold front will approach on Tuesday, bringing increased chances for rain and a noticeable drop in temperatures. Highs will fall into the low to mid 90s on Tuesday, then settle into the upper 80s to low 90s from Wednesday through Friday as the front stalls to our south.
