Rachel Bilson learned the hard way you can share too much information.

The 44-year-old actress was recently featured on Nicole Byer’s Why Won’t You Date Me? podcast, where she mentioned being let go by a company after discussing intimate topics, including her preference for being ‘manhandled’ in intimate moments.

Bilson had appeared on the Women on Top podcast in March 2023 when she made the comment about her sex life.

‘I said something like, “I like to be manhandled,”‘ Bilson recalled, telling Byer she was ‘joking around’ when she made the comment.

The former O.C. star reflected on this incident and admitted that, although she was inclined to challenge the decision to fire her, she understood the company’s perspective.

‘Reading something out of context as a standalone comment can definitely paint it in a certain light,’ explained the Hart of Dixie actress.

Although it led to her dismissal, she amusingly noted that Olivia Allen’s 83-year-old mother, who co-hosts the Broad Ideas podcast with her, found the situation entertaining.

‘She was like, “I like to be manhandled!” You know? Like everyone could relate,’ Bilson exclaimed.

She continued: ‘But because I used that word in whatever context, they just took that out of the conversation. It didn’t sound great, I guess.’

The mom-of-one explained it was a ‘very conservative company’ and they weren’t comfortable talking about sex at all.

While maintaining she was ‘joking’ about the comment, the actress acknowledged she has to be responsible. 

‘I’m on record saying things, so maybe maintain some boundaries as if with your girlfriends,’ she advised Byer. ‘Or maybe embrace it and talk about that experience itself.’

Bilson admitted she found she started filtering herself a little bit after the incident, worried she was going to lose her job.

‘I was like, “Oh my God, if I say this am I gonna lose this job? Am I gonna be judged? Shamed?” Whatever it may be,’ she recalled.

Bilson made the comment to the Women On Top hosts Tammin Sursok and Roxy Manning while appearing as a guest on their show.

‘I’ve learned that if you want to have an orgasm during sex, you have to be on top. Missionary is my favorite. I want to be f**king manhandled,’ she said.

The O.C. alum opened up about the experience, admitting that while she wanted to fight the dismissal, she could understand why they decided to fire her

However, mere weeks later Bilson revealed her honesty cost her a job.

‘This is the first time it’s ever happened to me in my professional life that I lost a job this week because of things that were said,’ she shared at the time.

‘A single mom, a woman, lost a job because they were being candid and honest and the subject was sex,’ said Bilson continued.

‘You know, I provide a lot for my family,  my daughter, and regardless of anything else, it all matters,’ she declared.
