The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that a man is in “serious, but stable condition” after being hospitalized.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is on the mend following a shooting incident at his girlfriend’s residence on Jacksonville’s Northside late Tuesday night, authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office have confirmed.

Sgt. Johnson of the JSO stated that officers responded to an emergency call at a home located in the 200 block of Kirk Road at approximately 11:30 p.m., concerning a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the injured man, who is in his late 20s. He was promptly attended to by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, who transported him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in “serious, but stable condition,” according to Johnson.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was visiting his girlfriend’s home when the suspect and another person arrived at the scene,” Johnson elaborated.

A verbal altercation between the man and the suspect escalated into a physical confrontation, as detailed by Johnson.

At some point, Johnson said, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man twice before leaving the scene on foot with the individual they arrived at the home with.

Johnson said the two “possibly left in a white Volkswagen Jetta.” He added that the sheriff’s office does not have any tag information.

There was another witness that was present during the incident and detectives are speaking with that witness,” Johnson said.

Johnson further told First Coast News that it is believed that all the people involved in the incident know each other, and that this appears to be an isolated incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
