Judge Bars Rep. Lauren Boebert’s Son Tyler Boebert From Contacting Ex in Child Exploitation Case

Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son, Tyler Boebert, has been instructed by a Colorado court to avoid contact with his former girlfriend, who is listed as the protected party in his child sexual exploitation case—even in the event of an unexpected run-in.

During an Aug. 19 hearing, the 21-year-old raised a practical concern with the judge after the terms of a mandatory protection order were explained to him. “I’m just concerned about if they came to my place of work,” Tyler told a Colorado judge. “I’m obligated to be there, and I just don’t want that to be a violation.”

The judge acknowledged the concern and said it was appropriate for him to ask for clarification.

She advised that if a protected party were to arrive at his workplace, the safest course would likely be for Tyler to briefly step away. “Maybe have a conversation with your boss about that particular circumstance if it were to arise,” the judge added.

According to a charging document obtained by Oxygen, Tyler Boebert is facing three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, along with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

He appeared in court without legal representation, and it remains unclear whether he has formally entered a plea in the case.

The case dates back to February 2024, when investigators allege that Tyler, who was 18 at the time, appeared in a video engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl, according to an affidavit obtained by Oxygen.

Tyler is 11 months older than the alleged victim, and NBC News reported that she turned 18 three weeks after the video was recorded.

The following month, police received a tip through Colorado’s anonymous reporting system Safe2Tell about child sexual abuse material, according to the affidavit. The girl’s mother also reported her belief that Tyler had recorded the video.

On Aug. 9, Tyler was arrested and booked into the Garfield County Jail on $10,000 bond and released that day.

“Prosecutors have said Boebert “caused, induced, enticed, or permitted” a minor to engage in and make child sex abuse materials and “knowingly possessed with intent to deal in, sell, or distribute any sexually exploitative material,” according to court documents obtained by Oxygen.

“I love my son,” Rep. Boebert, a Republican representing Colorado, told TMZ on Aug. 10. “We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

Meanwhile, Tyler is mired in other legal troubles.

In February 2024, Tyler was arrested “after a recent string of vehicle trespass and property thefts in Rifle,” according to police.

He was charged with four felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents involving multiple victims, one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony, and more than 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses.

Tyler pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft, according to the Post Independent, while the remaining charges were dropped.

Then, this past February, Tyler was cited on a misdemeanor charge of child abuse without injury after his 2-year-old son wandered out of his mother’s Colorado home, for the second time. The boy was rescued by a stranger, Rep. Boebert told 9News, adding that there was “no excuse” for the incident.

An attorney for Tyler’s attempted identity theft case did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen.

Oxygen could not locate an attorney for Tyler’s misdemeanor case.
