BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — A 33-year-old Bismarck man, out on bond for less than four hours, assaulted a woman and then severely beat a neighbor who tried to intervene.

According to the Bismarck Police, officers Thursday night responded to an assault that had spilled out into a residential area.

When police arrived, they found a 43-year-old Bismarck man unconscious and bleeding from an apparent head wound. The man was treated for his injuries and taken to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses at the scene told officers the man out on bond had strangled a 36-year-old woman several times to the point she lost consciousness. During the assault they said the man made several threats to the woman’s life.

Several neighbors came to try and break up the assault. The man then attacked one of the neighbors, slamming him on his head in the street and striking him several times in the head.

Police said while they were arresting the man, he fought with them as they tried to put him in the squad car, ultimately kicking an officer in the genitals.

The man was taken to the Burleigh Morton Detention Center where he is awaiting an initial court appearance on counts of Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Assault on a Police Officer, and other charges.

The man was out on bond less than four hours from a previous assault and order prohibiting contact violation.
