Kate Hudson reveals why she refuses to use email

Kate Hudson has decided to cut emails out of her life, revealing that the constant influx of messages disrupts her day, especially during what she describes as one of the most hectic times in her career.

The 46-year-old Golden Globe nominee shared with People that her current workload is reminiscent of her bustling twenties. This surge is fueled by the recent launch of her Netflix comedy series, “Running Point,” and the anticipated release of her musical biopic “Song Sung Blue,” which is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day.

“Honestly, I think this is the busiest I’ve been since my twenties,” Hudson remarked. “It’s been quite an interesting period.”

In the face of such a demanding schedule, Hudson has become more vigilant about setting boundaries, particularly regarding digital communication.

“I’ve started telling people very openly that I despise email,” she confessed. “I don’t like it, and I don’t want to sift through a thousand emails a day. It just ruins my day.”

She further emphasized that those awaiting an email reply from her will likely be left waiting.

‘If you’re going to send me an email and think that I’m going to get it or read it, good luck!’ she said, explaining she would much rather speak on the phone.

As a mother of three balancing multiple professional commitments, Hudson said email culture creates unrealistic expectations of constant availability.

‘If you’ve got multiple businesses or multiple work things and kids on top of it, and you’re being sent email after email after email, there’s this sort of expectation that that’s the communication,’ she explained. ‘I don’t like the fact that because you have email, that means that on the weekend you’re supposed to answer them.’

She continued: ‘Then you go and you’re like, ‘Wait, I have 500 emails and it would take me two days to actually respond to all of these.’ So, email’s out for me. I can’t – and my creative brain won’t.’

Hudson’s comments come as she has also been reflecting on pivotal career decisions, including her choice to turn down the role of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man, which ultimately went to Kirsten Dunst.

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Hudson admitted she sometimes looks back at the decision with mild regret, saying it ‘would’ve been fun’ to be part of the superhero franchise.

However, she stressed that Dunst was ‘the right’ choice and said it never feels good to question casting decisions in hindsight.

Hudson instead chose to star in the historical drama The Four Feathers, a project she says gave her invaluable life experiences, including forming a close friendship with Heath Ledger.

She has also previously described missing out on The Devil Wears Prada as a ‘bad call,’ revealing she was unable to take on the role of Andrea Sachs due to a scheduling conflict.

The part later went to Anne Hathaway, while Meryl Streep earned an Oscar nomination for her performance as Miranda Priestly.

Despite the missed opportunities, Hudson has said she believes her career unfolded as it was meant to and remains open to future projects, including the possibility of a comic book role, if the part is right.

Hudson is experiencing significant Oscar buzz for Song Sung Blue.

Previously she was nominated for an Academy Award for her breakout role in Almost Famous (2001).
