Leftists are sounding the alarm over news that the U.S. Supreme Court could potentially be poised to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion ruling when it issues a decision in a case regarding a Mississippi pro-life law.

Politico published a draft majority opinion by Justice Samuel Alito which declares that the high court intends to overturn Roe and another decision — but nothing has been officially decided since the document is just a draft opinion, not an official ruling of the court.

“Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives,” the draft opinion states.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton decried the news as “outrageous.”

“This decision is a direct assault on the dignity, rights, & lives of women, not to mention decades of settled law. It will kill and subjugate women even as a vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. What an utter disgrace,” Clinton tweeted.

Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts called for adding additional seats to the nine-member Supreme Court, a policy proposal that critics refer to as court packing.

“A stolen, illegitimate, and far-right Supreme Court majority appears set to destroy the right to abortion, an essential right which protects the health, safety, and freedom of millions of Americans. There is no other recourse. We must expand the court,” Markey tweeted.

“An extremist Supreme Court is poised to overturn #RoeVWade and impose its far-right, unpopular views on the entire country. It’s time for the millions who support the Constitution and abortion rights to stand up and make their voices heard. We’re not going back—not ever,” Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts tweeted.

“As one of the 1 in 4 women in this country who have chosen to have an abortion, I am outraged & disgusted by the reported draft SCOTUS opinion,” Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington tweeted.

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont (I) called for abolishing the Senate filibuster in order to ram through legislation to codify Roe v. Wade as law.

“Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW. And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes,” Sanders tweeted.
