The upcoming Disney Pixar movie, Elio, arrives in theaters this weekend, perfectly timed for the start of summer vacation. For parents seeking a two-hour respite in a cool, air-conditioned setting, this film offers an ideal escape alongside your kids.

Under the direction of Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, with a screenplay by Julia Cho, Mark Hammer, and Mike Jones, Elio presents a fresh, original animated tale. It follows an 11-year-old boy who manages to make contact with aliens, gets whisked away into space, and unexpectedly becomes Earth’s ambassador. It’s the ultimate dream come true for any young boy!

Newcomer Yonas Kibreab provides the voice of Elio, with the voice cast also featuring Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil, and Shirley Henderson. Like other Pixar movies, Elio promises to be both charming and heartfelt. Here’s what you need to know about watching the Elio movie and the anticipated release of Elio streaming on Disney+.

Where to watch the Elio movie:

Right now, the only place to watch the new Disney Pixar movie Elio is in a movie theater, when the movie opens in theaters on Friday, June 20. You can find a showing at a movie theater near you via Fandango.

Is Elio streaming on Netflix?

The Elio movie is not streaming on Netflix, and most likely will never be streaming on Netflix. This is due to the fact that Elio is a Disney Pixar movie and will have a streaming home on the Disney-owned streamer, Disney+.

Disney+ offers a number of subscription options, so you can find the one that works for you. With ads, a subscription costs $9.99/month; without ads, it’s $15.99/month or $159.99/year.

There are also Disney+ bundles with Hulu, Max, and ESPN+, so you can subscribe to up to three services at once and save over 40% every month. The bundles are available in a few different configurations, starting at $10.99/month for Disney+ and Hulu with ads, and going up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max ad-free.

Is the Elio movie streaming on Disney Plus?

Elio is not yet streaming on Disney+. Right now, the movie is only playing in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Elio streaming on Disney+ eventually. While a Elio Disney+ release date has not yet been announced, we can make an educated guess as to when the movie will be streaming based on previous Disney releases.

The last Disney Pixar movie, Inside Out 2, was released on premium video-on-demand about two months after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Disney+ about three months after opening in theaters. If Elio follows a similar release strategy, you may see Elio on digital platforms around the end of August 2025, and streaming on Disney+ around late September 2025.

But this is all speculation. If you want to watch the new Elio movie ASAP, you can catch the movie in theaters.
