James Van Der Beek's ex-wife Heather McComb weds after actor's death

In a touching ceremony held in Missoula, Montana, Heather McComb, the former wife of the late James Van Der Beek, tied the knot with Scott Michael Campbell this past Saturday. This joyous occasion comes three months after the “Dawson’s Creek” star’s passing.

McComb, 49, took to Instagram to tell more than 15,400 followers about her Midwestern wedding ceremony, including a slideshow of images from her special day.

Expressing her happiness, McComb shared, “Yesterday, Scott Michael Campbell and I were officially married under the covenant of God, officiated by my wonderful sister, Essence Atkins. We were surrounded by the people we love most in the world, in our favorite city, Missoula, Montana.”

Reflecting on the day, McComb, who was married to Van Der Beek from 2003 to 2010, added, “Our hearts are full and humbled by the overwhelming love we received. God is truly good.”

She extended her gratitude to all her family and friends who traveled from across the country to celebrate with them, adding, “Thank you, Jesus, the way maker and miracle worker!”

The late James Van Der Beek, best known for his role as Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” passed away on February 11 after a courageous battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. His memory was undoubtedly present during the weekend’s nuptials.

The former couple, seen in 2005, had been wed from 2003 to 2010

McComb, a New Jersey native with credits in “American Gigolo,” “Ray Donovan,” and “The Event,” expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making her wedding both romantic and unforgettable.

‘You all made it so special and a truly magical weekend that we will never forget,’ McComb said. ‘We are sitting here counting our many blessings. Thank you to everyone who made this so special for us!

Van Der Beek was well-remembered by a number of his colleagues in show business following news of his passing.

Van Der Beek, also known for his roles in Varsity Blues, One Tree Hill and CSI: Cyber, who was father to six children with wife Kimberly, 44, who he wed in 2010, the same year he split with McComb.

Van Der Beek last year touched on the emotional impact of his public health battle, saying it was ‘overwhelming’ in a good way to be on the receiving end of kind words and well-wishes from concerned family, friends and fans.

Van Der Beek told the Today Show in December ‘so many people [told him], “I’m praying for you. I’m wishing you the best. How you doin?”‘

Said the actor: ‘I never expected that. I never just stopped to appreciate what I’d done. And I will say, every time somebody says, “I’m praying for you, and I’m wishing you the best,” I appreciate it.’

Van Der Beek added, ‘The biggest change I’d say would be this journey of self love,’ adding, ‘What I realized was, I’m still worthy of love. My own love, God’s love.’

The former couple was seen at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California in 2002

He said that while he felt his health had been improving, the cancer battle itself was ‘a longer journey than [he] ever thought it would be.’

Said the actor: ‘It’s required more of me – more patience, more discipline, more strength than I knew I had.’

James, 48, is survived by his children with Kimberly: Olivia, 15, Joshua, 14, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 10, and Gwendolyn, seven, and Jeremiah, four.

Kimberly took to Instagram at the time with the heartbreaking news, saying, ‘Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning.

‘He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.’

She wrapped up, ‘For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.’
