In a tragic incident in a remote Aboriginal community in Queensland, authorities have arrested a man following a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of a 10-year-old girl and a woman.

The accident occurred on Doomadgee Road in the community of Doomadgee, about 400 kilometers north of Mount Isa. The car, carrying five occupants, crashed around 6:30 a.m. local time.

Upon arrival, emergency services encountered a harrowing scene, with all passengers sustaining serious injuries.

The 30-year-old driver, hailing from Cloncurry, received immediate first aid but tragically succumbed to her injuries at the crash site.

The four passengers were rapidly transported to Doomadgee Hospital. Sadly, a 10-year-old girl did not survive her injuries.

Among the survivors, one individual is in critical condition, while the other two are being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

Of the remaining three, one is fighting for their life while two are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man known to the deceased.

9news.com.au understands he was in another vehicle at the time.

A crime scene has been declared as investigations continue.

Queensland Police are supporting the Doomadgee community and local officers.

They have advised the community that there is no ongoing threat.
