ESCONDIDO —
A man died at a car wash in Escondido Friday night after his body got jammed between his car and the car wash’s machinery, Escondido police said.
The man became trapped outside his Scion xB hatchback in the car wash on East Valley Parkway near Quarry Glenn, police said.
Pearl Car Wash operates an automatic car wash, which police said appears to be the kind where drivers pull in, put their car in park and the washing mechanism moves back and forth around the vehicle.
Police received a call just before midnight from a person who heard an alarm go off and found the man outside of this car, police said.
When officers arrived, they lifted the vehicle to free the man and administered CPR, police said. The man was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he died, police said. His name has not been released.
Police are investigating the incident.
