Mark Sanchez’s former Fox colleague has spoken publicly about the ex-NFL quarterback’s near-fatal altercation with truck driver Perry Tole, an incident that left Sanchez stabbed, arrested and out of work in October 2025.
Sanchez was charged with battery causing serious injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication after the confrontation left 69-year-old Tole injured.
The incident happened in Indianapolis shortly before Sanchez was scheduled to call an NFL game. At the time, he and Adam Amin formed Fox’s No. 4 broadcast team.
Fox swiftly dismissed Sanchez and replaced him with fellow former quarterback Drew Brees. Nearly a year after the incident, Amin has addressed the painful collapse of his colleague’s career, saying, “it hurts my heart.”
“It hurts no matter what. It hurts,” Amin said on Andrew Marchand’s podcast.
“It hurts to see how it happened. It hurts that other people were involved and seemingly suffered consequences in that as well, physically. It hurts my heart. I only wish the best for him.”

Last month, Sanchez moved closer to resolving the legal fallout when his attorneys filed a motion seeking to enter a guilty plea in the criminal case. He also reached a tentative agreement to settle the lawsuit, although the September 3 filing did not specify which charges he intended to admit.
Court documents obtained by Our News Outlet state that Sanchez and Tole have reached an “agreement in principle” to settle their lawsuit.
The filing in the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana says upcoming dates in the case have been vacated. Tole has until January 8 to submit a motion seeking dismissal.
“Additional time to complete the execution of the settlement documents may be granted if requested in writing before expiration of this period,” the order states.
A change-of-plea hearing in the criminal case is scheduled in Marion Superior Court for November 9. The civil lawsuit was originally filed there before being transferred to federal court last year.
A judge must still accept Sanchez’s guilty plea. His brother and legal adviser, Nick Sanchez Jr, described the filing as a “positive development” last month.
Sanchez’s jury trial, initially set for March 12, had already been postponed five times. It was most recently scheduled for September 8 before his attorneys asked the court to accept the proposed plea agreement.

“We are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor’s office that provides a path toward resolving the state’s case,” Nick Sanchez Jr told FOX59 last month.
“We’re also encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter. There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close.”

Matt Goltiko, an attorney representing Tole, said at the time: “We are pleased with the constructive and professional conversations we’ve had with Mr. Sanchez’s team.”
‘Our discussions have been productive and we’re on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward. Mr. Tole appreciates the progress we have achieved and looks forward to an amicable resolution.’
During an alleged near-fatal brawl with Tole, Sanchez, 39, suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper right torso.
Sanchez, who has been married to wife Perry Mattfeld since 2023, was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders for Fox the following day when the altercation with Tole occurred.
After briefly being booked into jail upon his release from hospital, he was fired by the network in early November.
A police affidavit alleged that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted Tole, who had backed his truck into a hotel’s loading docks in downtown Indianapolis on October 4.
Tole claimed in a lawsuit that Sanchez entered the truck without permission, then physically blocked him. The driver responded by dousing him with pepper spray, he told police.
When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Tole pulled a knife to defend himself, authorities said.
A picture of Tole that circulated online following the incident showed him in a neck brace on a hospital bed, covered in blood with a deep slash to the side of his face.
Tole, who has claimed self-defense and has not been charged, has been suing Sanchez, Fox Sports and local restaurateur Huse Culinary in federal court.
