Meghan posts charming pictures to mark International Day of the Girl

Meghan Markle has shared a rare photo of her daughter Lilibet on Instagram to mark International Day of the Girl.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, posted the sweet image showing her holding hands with four-year-old Lilibet in the scenic grounds of their Montecito home.

The post was captioned: ‘To all the girls – this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, support each other.

‘We will do the same for you. It’s your right and our responsibility. Go get ’em, girl! Happy International Day of the Girl.’

In the picture, Meghan looks lovingly at her daughter as the pair stroll hand in hand.

The Duchess wears a crisp white linen shirt and matching trousers, while Lilibet sports a pink T-shirt and jeans.

Meghan also posted an adorable video clip of Lilibet happily running around on the grass while music plays in the background.

She and her husband, Prince Harry, share two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

Celebrated every year on October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child was initiated by the United Nations to draw attention to global gender inequality and to advocate for girls’ rights to education, healthcare, and protection from discrimination and violence.

It aims to empower young women and amplify their voices on issues that affect their futures.

The post comes after the couple were crowned ‘Humanitarians of the Year’ during Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala which took place on Thursday.

The couple were seen taking to the stage to accept the award and Meghan expressed, ‘Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old.

‘Luckily still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming.

‘Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits, while safeguarding against its dangers.’

The star added while further reflecting on the impact of social media on young children, ‘That hopeful intention of separation is rapidly becoming impossible.’

Harry also voiced a similar statement and said, ‘This is a pivotal moment in our collective mission to protect children and support families in a digital age.’

The Duke of Sussex was honored as ‘a humanitarian, mental health advocate, environmentalist, and military combat veteran’ by Project Healthy Minds.

Meghan was additionally noted as a ‘mother, wife, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.’

Both Harry and Meghan are known for launching the non-profit Archewell Foundation back in 2020.

The organization notably ‘partners with key organizations and leaders to identify immediate needs, build meaningful initiatives, and drive long-term change,’ per the official website.

Meghan and Harry enjoyed lunch with tennis legend Serena Williams in New York’s Soho House just a day after they were named Humanitarians of the Year.

The Duchess of Sussex wore wide-leg navy trousers, paired with a striped blouse and a brown coat while heading to the members club in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District on Friday.

Meghan, who was out for lunch with her husband and close friend Serena, paired her coat with brown stilettos and had her hair slicked back into a bun.

The duchess and Serena have been close pals since before Meghan met Prince Harry, and often share affectionate posts for one another on social media.

The pair first met at a Super Bowl party in 2010 and became firm friends after reuniting at an event in 2014.

The duchess invited the sportswoman to her wedding to Prince Harry and her star-studded baby shower when pregnant with Archie in 2019.

Serena has also been vocal in her praise for Meghan, including comments following the Duke and Duchess’s bombshell CNN interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The tennis player said afterwards: ‘Meghan is a great person and I think the epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of just selflessness, and the epitome of everything is just her and everything that she’s gone through.

‘You can see from the interview that it wasn’t easy. But she had so much poise and she still had so much class..

‘I just think that she is the strongest person I know. I don’t know anyone else that could handle anything on such a global scale the way that she’s had to handle things that are just untrue – minute after minute.’
