A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed after pushing a homeless man into a brick wall and forcing him face-first onto the pavement, leaving him with injuries that required hospital treatment.
Pc Omer Farok, who was serving with the force’s Central North Basic Command Unit, was found guilty of gross misconduct over his treatment of the man during an incident in Parker Street, central London, on June 15, 2024.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said its investigation began after officers were called to reports that a man had entered an unattended vehicle.
Pc Farok detained and handcuffed the man shortly after arriving, despite the fact that he had stayed at the scene and had not tried to flee before police appeared.
During a subsequent search, the officer repeatedly pushed the man into the corner of a brick wall and called him an ‘idiot’ several times, according to the police watchdog. He also ignored the man’s requests for an explanation after accusing him of resisting arrest.
Video footage showed Pc Farok adjusting the handcuffs in a manner that caused the man pain while continuing to claim he was resisting.
The detained man can be heard saying: ‘My hands are behind my back.
‘How am I resisting? I’m not resisting.’

He later shouted: ‘Stop hitting me against the wall.
‘Why are you hurting me?’
The IOPC said Pc Farok then grabbed the man around the upper body and forcefully brought him to the ground.
Because his hands were cuffed behind his back, the man could not protect himself as he fell. He struck the pavement face-first, suffering a cut near his right eyebrow that required hospital treatment and left blood on the ground.

Even after the takedown, Pc Farok continued to yell ‘stop resisting’, although the injured man was lying on the pavement and did not appear to be resisting.
After completing its investigation, the IOPC referred the case for a gross misconduct hearing.
The hearing, arranged by the Metropolitan Police and concluded on Friday, found the allegations proven. Pc Farok was dismissed from the force with immediate effect.
The panel found that he had breached professional standards covering the use of force and authority, as well as respect and courtesy.

Pc Farok will also be added to the College of Policing’s barred list, meaning he cannot work in policing again.
Amanda Rowe, the IOPC’s director of engagement, said: ‘Police officers are entrusted with significant powers and must use them lawfully, with restraint and self-control, while treating members of the public with dignity and respect.
‘Pc Farok repeatedly directed disrespectful and degrading language at the man and used force that was neither necessary, reasonable nor proportionate in the circumstances. His actions caused the man to strike his head on the ground and suffer an injury.
‘Conduct of this kind can undermine public confidence in policing and falls far below the standards expected of police officers.
‘Our investigation has now resulted in the officer being held to account.’
After concluding its investigation in December 2024, the IOPC sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which charged Pc Farok with assault by beating.
He was acquitted after a trial in November 2025.
