In DuPage County, Illinois, a woman has been acquitted on the grounds of insanity for the deadly shooting of her twin brother in their Willowbrook residence last year, as revealed by court records.

Jamilah Mahan faced charges of first-degree murder and aggravated domestic battery for allegedly shooting her brother, 23-year-old Jihad Mahan, at their home on Mockingbird Lane, according to the sheriff’s office.

She’s been remanded to a mental health facility after a bench trial. The case will be back in court in November.

Mahan allegedly shot her twin brother before engaging in a physical struggle with her mother, police said.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commented, “The tragic act of domestic violence alleged here deeply affects the whole community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jihad’s loved ones and wish them strength as they grieve the loss and deal with another family member facing such serious accusations.”

Mahan was held at the DuPage County Correctional facility until her trial.
